A few weeks ago I shared five black films that deserve to be given as much attention as Red Tails, one of them was Sam Pollard’s Slavery By Any Other Name.

As I mentioned before, this documentary explores the “reenslavement of African-Americans” after the civil war. Despite being taught that slavery ended with the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, this film takes a look at how new forms of forced labor continued to keep African Americans in the South enslaved well into the 20th Century.

Narrated by Laurence Fishburne and told through re-enactments, interviewes with historians and descendants of both former slaves and slave owners and the enslaved, Slavery By Any Other Name shines a light on one of America’s darkest secrets.

Check out a preview of Slavery By Any Other Name. It premires tonight, Feb. 13, on PBS (check local listings).

I saw it last night. What a great informative program! Peonage is a subject I never learned about in school nor anywhere else.
I look forward to checking out the book now.

This is nothing new, this information has been out in history. I won’t be watching because it’s nothing new.

And you can watch it online too. Not planning on watching it though – my heart just can’t take it, the preview above was enough to bring me to angry tears.
