There is no doubt that Brooklyn is a great community for fashion stars. Nike Oyelami is a talented fashion designer hailing from Brooklyn’s arsenal of creative trendsetters. Her fashion brand “Ekineyo” is becoming a household name. Minimal dresses, tops, and bottoms infused with African influence makes “Ekineyo” indie clothing line unique.
With a refreshing take on color and texture, she has produced great simplistic pieces for her clients over a decade. Her inspiration lies in her cultured upbringing in Chicago, and being inspired by music like Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder and Common. Nike’s interest in bold color and simple construction of furniture has transition into creating her masterpieces made of fabric.
In 2011, Ekineyo made some noise with Elle Varner wearing the sheer fringe tank and tribal print leggings from her spring 2011 collection at the Black Girls Rock event and a pair of Ekineyo leggings in the music video for the soulful remix of the J. Cole/Miguel song, “All I Want is Him.” Tika Sumpter and Nicole Ari Parker stepped out in Nike’s “Babe” body con dress from her fall 2011/2012 collection. This year, Basketball Wives LA star, Laura Govan rocked some Ekineyo dresses for the BE Magazine’s February 2012 issue.
For spring 2011 and summer 2011, her collections were filled with feminine silhouettes in graphic prints featuring full skirts, cropped tops, and fringed tops. Her fall collection, “Color in Transition” showcased the colorblocking trend in fringed dresses, jackets with draped detailing, long sleeved cocktail styled silhouettes, body con dresses with sheer panels at the hem, and neon colored pieces.
Ekineyo provides color and minimalism in a striking way with intricate designs and patterns. For a full look at the Ekineyo line, visit www.ekineyo.com. Ekineyo will be launching their spring 2012 collection in April, you can view pieces from the collection now!
