Last night I tuned into my weekly dish of drama and watched the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion. Catty is not even the word to describe the behavior of these over 30, self proclaimed “classy” women. At one point it felt like I was watching college or (dare I say) high school girls clawing at each other’s throats. After a certain age shouldn’t this type of behavior stop?
Getting older means growing maturity wise and gaining wisdom that you lacked in your younger years. I understand that all of the fighting and arguing could be exaggerated for ratings, but I can’t imagine making an utter fool of myself on television for money. The immaturity displayed last night was ridiculous from the shouting to the faces that were made when others were speaking. One particular moment that I thought was a mess was when Kim was talking about her marriage and told everyone that she was pregnant. Nene was making all sorts of faces while she was speaking. All I could think to myself was, “How old are you again?” The only two cast members who appeared to keep their composure was Phaedra and Cynthia, although there are two more parts to the reunion so their claws may come out later.
It always shocks me when I see women of a certain age acting the way I see some high school kids act when I am on the train. Like a fine wine we should all get better with time. If for no other reason than life experience, there are just some antics that I believe should be left to children. These women were dressed so elegantly and looked amazing, but as soon as they opened their mouths that image went out the door. Even when it comes to arguing or defending yourself from someone else’s attacks, you should still keep some level of decorum. Screaming matches should be something women in their 30s, 40s and beyond say they USED to do when they didn’t know any better.
At what age do you think the catty behavior should stop?
