Seventies sex icon and blaxploitation star Pam Grier really did bare all in her 2010 autobiography Foxy: My Life in Three Acts. From her rise to fame as one of the baddest chicks in cinema to her history of relationships with big names like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Freddie Prinze, and Richard Pryor, the book is juicy and inspirational at the same time. Who else can talk about being one of the first female action stars, battling stage four ovarian cancer, and having cocaine-fueled sex with Richard Pryor? Just Pam.
It was announced yesterday that Imprint Entertainment has optioned the rights to the memoir for an on-screen adaptation. Eunetta Boone, producer and writer for shows like One on One and Living Single, will write the adaptation.
The question now becomes, who could possibly play Pam Grier? Model turned television personality Toccara Jones has always reminded me a little bit of Grier, but I’m not sure she has the acting chops to pull this one off without turning the film into a tv movie. On the other hand, almost anyone is better than our biopic go-to Halle Berry. Maybe this film calls for a fresh new face?
What do you think?
