It’s Monday, and while many of you may be giving the new week a mean side-eye, today is the perfect opportunity to break out of your comfort zone and try something new. Because we love you Clutchettes, each Monday I’ll share a few things I think you should try that will help nurture your greatness and help you have a little fun.

Wondering if you have to do all five? Certainly not, you can disregard the entire list if you want. But the point of this weekly endeavor is to get you to try something new and hopefully motivate you to break out of your routine and add a bit of fun (and inspiration) to your life. Oh yeah. I’m not just getting all preachy on you, either; I’ll be taking my own suggestions.

So…what should you put on your to-do list for this week?

Get some sunshine: How often do you lay outside, getting your fill of Vitamin D? Somewhere between work, school, and tending to our families, many of us miss out on getting some rays. This week, make a point to get outside and indulge in a little sunshine. Whether you can spare 10 minutes during your lunch break or you pack a picnic, your boo, or your favorite book and lounge about for the entire afternoon, make a little time to enjoy the great outdoors.

Dance, dance, dance: Dancing is one of the easiest ways to lift your mood and get some much-needed exercise. This week, take a few minutes to bust a groove. You can sign up for a class at your gym, hit a party, or simply turn on your stereo and get it on in the comfort (and privacy) of your own living room—it doesn’t matter as long as you let go and let the rhythm take over.

Read a book, read a book, read a micky ficky book: I know Clutchettes are a well-read, intelligent group of women, but if you’re like me and are busy doing a million things at once, it’s been a minute since you curled up on your couch, ignored your phone, and read a good book.  This week, hit your local library or book store and catch up on that one book all of your friends have been telling you about. And shhhh…if it’s a trashy romance novel, gritty street lit title, or totally over-the-top fantasy book, I won’t tell if you won’t.

Start your day with a stretch: Taking care of ourselves is one of the most important things we can do. If you are tense, sore, or just feeling a bit restless, beginning your morning with a few stretches is a great way to collect your thoughts, loosen the kinks, and start your day more focused and relaxed. Don’t know where to get started? Try starting with one of yoga’s staples, the Sun Salutation pose. Namaste.

Cook a meal from scratch: It doesn’t have to be fancy, but cooking—even the smallest meal—can make you feel accomplished. Because adults should know how to feed themselves and because processed food is threatening to be the death of all of us, cooking a meal full of whole foods is essential to our health. This week, plan and cook a meal, and even better, potluck with your friends or family for a cheap and healthy get together.
