“If I didn’t define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people’s fantasies for me and eaten alive” –Audre Lorde

Who are you?

That question continuously comes up throughout our lives. From job interviews to those moments when we’re alone with ourselves, figuring out exactly who we are is one of the most important (and sometimes most difficult) parts of life.

While others will certainly try to label you with what they think you are, if those definitions don’t fall in line with who you feel you are, or who you want to be, don’t embrace them.

Many of us have been told lots of negative things about who we are — fat, bossy, pushy, too strong, unloveable — but that doesn’t mean we are any of those things. At any moment you have the power to rewrite your story, start fresh, and be whatever you want.

Although it sounds awkward, I love that line in Kanye’s song “I Wonder” when he reminds us: “You can still be who you wish you is.”

It’s true.

Who are you, Clutchettes?

Happy Thursday!

Still trying to figure that out, lol, fortunately I’m not frustrated yet ;)

  • I too am figuring that out…having been the Mama to my younger brothers and sisters and then having my girls when I was 17 and 19 my identity was very simple Mama, Mommy, single mother (to society) or just plain Ma. Now that my girls are both “grown” (18 and 20) I am at the point where I truly get to figure out who I am and what I wanna be when I grow up. It’s scary as H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS with a little excitement mixed in.

  • Took me a while to figure out and I am still on that journey but I have learned alot about myself: I’m strong, determined, a bit shy yet outspoken at the same time (weird), dorky, talented, witty, and an all around quirky girl. I dig it!
