An ugly scene transpired during the Republican National Convention Tuesday night when an attendee was thrown out of the convention center in Tampa after allegedly throwing nuts at a black CNN camerawoman and taunting her, saying, “This is how we feed animals.”
Former MSNBC host David Shuster tweeted about the horrific scene, which was later confirmed by CNN. Although the network was mum about the details, CNN released a statement saying the incident had been handled.
“CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon,” the statement read. “CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”
This incident wasn’t the only charged moment at the convention. Earlier in the day, a rowdy bunch of Ron Paul supporters shouted down Zoraida Fonalledas, the Puerto Rican chairwoman of the Committee on Permanent Organization. During the tense moment, Fonalledas attempted to introduce the nomination of John Boehner as the permanent convention chairman, while the crowd angrily shouted, “U.S.A!”
While it’s unclear if the crowd was angry over the rules changes or if they were purposely trying to disrespect Ms. Fonalledas, the GOP convention got off to a decidedly rocky start.
