America’s Next Top Model executive producer/star Tyra Banks has inked a deal with ABC Studios for a single camera scripted comedy based on her teens years. Appropriately called, Fivehead, it will chronicle Banks’ teen years throughout high school and her family life. Banks said everything from being an awkward teenager to her journey into the modeling industry will be examined. “In high school, if you have glasses, you’re a ‘four eyes’, if you have braces, you’re a ‘metal mouth’ but if you had my forehead? You’re a FIVEHEAD,” said Banks.
Banks will co-produce and co-executive produce the show along with Kenya Barris, her business partner and co-creator of America’s Next Top Model. From growing up together, since they were 6 years old, Barris knows from first hand experience the trials and tribulations Banks went through as a child. “To be able to witness her career was wild, but to be able to watch Tyra grow up was nothing short of nutty,” said Barris. “I am blown away by the opportunity to tell not just a great story but a story that I remember so fondly.”
Banks is definitely no stranger to publicly poking fun of herself, self-deprecating is something she definitely doesn’t shy away from. She’s been public about her self-esteem issues she’s had as a teen, as well as her most recent muffin top. But will it work as a television series?
What do you think of Tyra’s Fivehead? Do you think it’ll work, or should she stick to ANTM?
