Rapper, singer and voice actress Nicki Minaj will not be giving her Grammy acceptance speech this year, but she said her day is coming soon.
Despite her big year in music and release of her second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, the Young Money songstress did not receive a single nomination for the upcoming 55th Grammy Awards.
But, she’s still in high spirits. “I’ve gotten tons of awards and I believe when it’s my time to get a Grammy, I’ll get a Grammy,” said Minaj, who received three nominations last year for her debut album, Pink Friday.
She hinted that there may be an ulterior motive in the Recording Academy’s choice to snub her this year. “I think that the Grammys had a different reason, that I do not want to discuss … and that’s just between me and them,” she said. “But I respect their organization and I’ll get a Grammy eventually. I’m not worried about it.”
She went on to say, “You do feel good when you get awards and accolades. Maybe if I had been doing this for 10 years and I thought like, ‘Oh my god, I’ve put out 10 albums’ — maybe it would have hurt my feelings. But I still feel so new that it’s like, ‘Charge it to the game,’” she said. “It’s part of the game.”
Minaj, who is currently a judge on American Idol, said her career is based on the people she’s able to inspire; not how many awards she’s won.
The Grammys are scheduled to air live February 10 on CBS.
