bibleDr. Joseph Mastropaolo, a man with a degree in kinesiology, is offering $10,000 to anyone who can “scientifically disprove the Bible’s creation story.”  Dr. Mastropaolo is a creationist and dares any evolution theory lovin’ schlub to come try and take his money.

Of course it doesn’t seem like solid science to ask someone to prove a negative. In an interview with the Huffington Post, Dr. Georgia Purdom, a molecular genetics researcher pointed out the basic issue with Dr. Mastropaolo’s query.  “Both creation and evolution are outside the domain of ‘observational science’ and thus neither is provable. Instead, the creation vs. evolution question involves ‘historical science,’ which is used to interpret the evidence we see today. The evidence does not speak for itself; in fact, it is subject to interpretive bias.”

Basically, Dr. Purdom just said, “This guy is an idiot. Don’t take the bait.”

I have a number of atheist friends (actually, some of the smartest people I know are atheists) and I have tons of Bible believing friends too.  Needless to say, some interesting exchanges occur on my Facebook wall from time to time.  Personally, I don’t belong to a particular religion, though I’ve studied the major religions. Not an atheist either. I believe there is a higher, more complicated order to things that is beyond the tangible. There’s a certain rhythm and energy to this life.  I call “it” the Universe.

I don’t have a problem with atheists, religious folks, agnostics or anyone else. Can’t we all just get along? The only thing I don’t rock with is when people try to force their beliefs down other people’s throats.

Anyway, this “contest” does not sound very legit, but would you give it a shot just to try to snag a cool 10 stacks? What are your beliefs as far as creationism and evolution?
