Issa Rae’s journey from talented star of “The Misadventures of The Awkward Black Girl (ABG)” to a force in mainstream comedy is inspiring to watch. Among her accomplishments since launching the hugely popular ABG series on YouTube, she was named to Forbes’ “30 under 30” list, she wrote a comedy script for ABC and Shondaland and is currently penning a memoir of personal essays to be published by HarperCollins.
ABG fans will be most excited about her latest achievement: Issa Rae was tapped to co-write a comedy series project (along with Larry Wilmore) for HBO. She will star in the project which, according to Deadline, “focuses on the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern day African-American woman.” Sounds a lot like “Awkward Black Girl,” right?
I can’t think of a better network for Issa Rae to partner with for “Awkward Black Girl” as HBO will give her a platform to deliver the clever wit she is known for.
