Red Lobster waitress gets racist tip

A waitress at a Red Lobster restaurant outside of Nashville, Tennessee says she received an unconventional tip from a couple she served over the weekend. Toni Christina Jenkins claims the couple scrawled “none n*gger” on the gratuity line of the receipt after paying the bill.

Jenkins says she sensed something was wrong as soon as she met the couple, but she served them anyway. The 19-year-old told the MailOnline the couple was rude and standoffish from the moment she introduced herself.

“They were extremely rude, but I introduced myself to them and they didn’t respond,” she explained. “When I came to take their order they simply told me they wanted their food and to put everything in a to-go box. I offered them dessert but they told me abruptly that they just wanted the check.”

Jenkins claims she noticed the racist comments when she collected the check; she showed it to her manager.

The teen then snapped a picture of the receipt and posted it to her Facebook page.

She wrote, “This is what I got as a tip last night…so happy to live in the proud southern states..God Bless America, land of the free and home of the low class racists of Tennessee.”

Jenkins says she posted the picture to simply document what happened and get some moral support from friends. However, since going public, she’s started being harassed by some claiming she doctored the receipt.

The response caught the teen off guard. “It’s all very surprising to me. When I posted it I thought it might get a few ‘likes’ from friends and family. People praying for me, that kind of thing. I didn’t think it would escalate this quickly. I am just a 19-year-old nursing student.”

article-2415671-1BB530E7000005DC-190_634x840The MailOnline quotes one commenter who blamed Jenkins for the ordeal, accusing her of being an attention seeker who cried racism.

“As a black man, I simply don’t believe this is real,” the commenter wrote. “The word ‘none’ has totally different handwriting from the word ‘Ni**er.’ There’s lots of stories lately of people making false accusations of racism or discrimination for attention. I think you should just admit you did this yourself because you were mad he didn’t tip you… This poor man is innocent and I think you are racist against white people.”

Despite the firestorm this has caused, Jenkins is sticking to her story. Unfortunately, she’s has been suspended from her job at Red Lobster with pay until they decide how to proceed.

I live in Nashville and I haven’t experienced racism while living here but in Franklin where this happened, is not uncommon. It’s really sad. Franklin is a predominately white town. A small white town at that. Smh. Red Lobster didn’t fire her because they know what’s up. It would have been another ordeal and they probably would’ve been sued.
