It seems as though every year there’s a new update to the Tupac Shakur biopic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it looks as though the film may actually get made, again. Last Thursday the producers behind the movie, Morgan Creek and Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films, announced that shooting is set to start in 2014. The film will be executive produced by Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, but so far no actors or even a director has been tied to the film. As with anything in Hollywood, just because it is in development, doesn’t mean it will ever see the light of day, even with a projected shooting date. What will be interesting is to see who will actually be cast to play the late rapper.
With most biopic castings done, especially those for black people, it can be a hit or miss. Remember Terrance Howard as Nelson Mandela? Yeah. Exactly. But Jamie Foxx was perfect for Ray Charles, although some people just thought of it as a “great impersonation”. Here’s to Hollywood not f*cking this up.
