This morning the nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced and the biggest contenders are “American Hustle,” “12 Years a Slave” and “Gravity”.

The nominees for Best Picture are “12 Years a Slave,” “American Hustle,” “Captain Phillips,” “The Dallas Buyers Club,” “Gravity,” “Her,” “Nebraska,” “Philomena,” “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

The nominees for  Best Actor are: Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave”), Christian Bale (“American Hustle”), Matthew McConaughey (“Dallas Buyers Club), Bruce Dern (“Nebraska”) and Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Wolf of Wall Street.”)

Best Actress nominees include Amy Adams (“American Hustle”), Meryl Streep (“August: Osage County”), Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”), Sandra Bullock (“Gravity”) and Judi Dench (“Philoemna”).

Nominees for Best Supporting Actress are  Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”), Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”), Julia Roberts (“August: Osage County,” June Squibb (“Nebraska”) and Jennifer Lawrence (“American Hustle”).

Fresh off his Golden Globe win, Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”) is up against Michael Fassbender (“12 Years a Slave”), Barkhad Abdi (“Captain Phillips”), Bradley Cooper (“American Hustle”) and Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street”).

Steve McQueen (“12 Years a Slave”), Alfonso Cuarón (“Gravity”), David O. Russell (“American Hustle”), Alexander Payne (“Nebraska”), Martin Scorsese (“The Wolf of Wall Street”) are in the running for Best Director.

The five Best Adapted Screenplay nominees are John Ridley (“12 Years a Slave”), Julie Delpy, Ethan Hawke and Richard Linklater (“Before Midnight”), Bill Ray (“Captain Phillips”), Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope (“Philomena” ), and  Terence Winter (“The Wolf of Wall Street”).

Hopefully since “12 Years a Slave” was nominated in multiple categories, they’ll leave with a few Oscars in their hands.

The the 86th Annual Academy Awards air on March 2.
