Looks like Shonda Rhimes will continue to dominate primetime for years to come. According to The Wrap, the Scandal showrunner is developing a new pilot around Oscar-nominated actress Viola Davis tentatively called, How to Get Away With Murder.
Davis will star as Professor Annalise Dewitt, in a legal drama that “centers on ambitious law students and their brilliant and mysterious criminal defense professor (Davis) who become entangled in a murder plot that could rock their entire university and change the course of their lives.”
While Davis is a longtime vet, appearing as a regular on several TV shows, How to Get Away With Murder will be her first full-time television role.
The pilot was written by Scandal alum Peter Nowalk, and is the first project out of the gate for Rhimes’ company, Shondaland. In addition to her current hits—Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal—Rhimes is also developing a comedy for ABC called “Cougar Town.”
