A tweet from the Federal College Financial Aid account featured a photo meme of Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids from the airplane scene with a caption, “Help me. I’m poor.”
The message said “If this is you, then you better fill out your FAFSA.”
Because only poor people need financial aid, right?
In the age of social media and companies/organizations trying to appeal to their younger followers, someone should have informed FAFSA that making fun of poor people isn’t actually a way to garner fans. Especially when your organization single-handedly makes people poor because of the loans being peddled.
Student loan debt is outrageous and even the president understands the issue. But that doesn’t stop the government from raising loan rates. So I guess as long as FAFSA can laugh about being poor, it’s ok?
In respond to their blunder, FAFSA issued this apologetic tweet:
We apologize for the insensitivity of our previous tweet. Our goal is to make college a reality for all. We’re very sorry.

Save your apologizes and give ‘us free. By free, I mean lower loan rates and loan forgiveness. Education shouldn’t cost a fortune or leave you in the poor house.
