Ariana Grande opened the show. Nicki Minaj was up next flaunting her assets during her “Anaconda” performance. Following Minaj, Ariana Grande and Jessie J hit the stage together. Minaj was scheduled to resurface for the trio performance of “Bang, Bang.” Unfortunately, the Queens native reemerged with a wardrobe malfunction.
Barely being able to move, Minaj held on to her dress for “dear life.” In an Instagram post Minaj stated, “God is good. As long as a nipple didn’t come out to play, I’m fine. Love my team. CASPER, Rushka, Adam, Oscar, Joyce, Gee… Many more to name but they’re all winners! No weak links. There’s no greater feeling than having ppl who inspire u and who work passionately and relentlessly to get the job done.”
Following the performance, Minaj yelled to reporters backstage, “You all know I had a wardrobe malfunction.” She added, “We ran out of time getting the dress zipped up.”
Today, Minaj posted a meme that stated, “Everyone was watching Nicki Minaj on the VMAs like …” She captioned the photo:
“Lol. Who did this? I know that’s what the boyz wanted but hell naw!!!!!!! I held on to that dress for DEAR LIFE!!! There was no bra and no panties to save me. Took real commitment.”
In addition, VMAs stage manager Gary Hood dished to Ryan Seacrest‘s KIIS-FM radio show the details. Hood said, “I wasn’t immediately next to her, but we rehearsed that [song], obviously, in the dress. And actually the same thing happened in the dress. She didn’t quite make it. I mean, each of the performers had about two minutes…There just wasn’t enough time for her,” he said.
