R&B singing, Dancing with the Stars dancing, marathon running diva Mya has been working up a sweat with her plant-based diet in a six month-long vegan challenge. A vegetarian for three years, she’s now a third of the way through her challenge to stick to a fully plant-based diet. She started on July 1st and will continue until then end of the year. She marked the start of her third month with a tweet on Monday:

In a recent interview for her cover piece on Women’s Running magazine, she explains how she became vegetarian before running the New York marathon back in 2011 and then decided to make the change permanent. She says that some of her friends were a bit skeptical at first, “There’s a stigma attached to vegetarian food. My friends would say, ‘Oh, gosh, that’s no fun” . . . “But I discovered so many great dishes that I eat habitually now, because they’re delicious.”

Like Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s 22 days of veganism last December, Mya is pushing herself to remove all dairy, eggs and other animal derived products from her diet during the challenge. For the next few months, she will be getting down with more of the smoothie recipes that her Instagram followers have come to know, and stepping up the cooking skills that have helped her thrive as a vegetarian.
