The actress, best known for her star making role in the movie Kids, has always been vocal about her intent to adopt, especially since she was also adopted at the age of 1.

During 2008 interview with Latina Magazine, Dawson who has a role in the upcoming Chris Rock flick, Top Five, spoke in-depth about her motivation to adopt, “That idea has stayed in the back of my head, but lately, I’ve been thinking about it more”. “My mother and grandmother are extraordinary women, and they are getting older. It struck me recently that one day I might be sitting around with my children going, ‘Your grandma was an amazing woman; I really wish you could’ve known her.’… Whatever time I have, I want it”.

Dawson who was rumored to be dating Slumdog Millionaire director, Danny Boyle for few years until they split in 2013 is currently single.

This is great! Most adoptions that I hear about are of younger children. That’s great and all, but there are a lot of kids between the ages of 5 and 17 who are also looking for good families to join.

Congratulations to Dawson and her new daughter. Does Dawson consider herself black?

I heard her give an explanation of her racial background as Native American, Latino and black. I don’t even think she associates with black people all that much as I have only heard of her dating white guys.

That’s my impression as well. I am a fan of her work, and for what it is worth, I find her her quite pretty. I just did not think of her as part of my community since I never see her with blacks, men or women.

Only When its time for an acting role . I like her personally yeh but that’s how I see her. I’m still a little bewildered how The brown skinned 4c afro Valerie in the Josie and the Pussycats/Archie comic books and cartoon of my youth was transformed into a sepia latina….for the movies …oh well

I am ambivalent about seeing people who I know don’t identify as black play black characters. I can’t blame actors for acting, especially if they are good. At the same time, black folks who cast them deserve the blame, but we tend not to know who those people are so we can’t dog them.
