If you thought things couldn’t get worse in regards to the Eric Garner case – then think again.
Daniel Pantaleo, the officer who escaped indictment for placing the fatal chokehold on Eric Garner, is claiming that despite the fact that he was clearly caught on video implementing the illegal act, he in fact used a non-threatening “takedown maneuver.”
According to the New York Post:
“He reiterated that he used a takedown maneuver, that did not utilize a chokehold. And any contact his arm had with the neck was incidental. He never intended to harm Mr. Garner, not did he ever apply any pressure to his neck area,” attorney Stuart London told The Post about his client, Daniel Pantaleo.
“We have always maintained it was never a chokehold. It was takedown procedure he was instructed in how to perform while in the police academy.”
Unfortunately just because Pantaleo didn’t mean to kill Eric Garner doesn’t change the fact that he did. The Staten Island jury failed to take that in consideration but internal affairs and the U.S. Department of Justice are both currently conducting their own investigations.
