After eight years as the HWIC, Nene Leakes is finally calling it quits. According to a recent interview with People, the Atlanta diva is leaving the show that made her a household name.
“This was definitely a hard decision for me,” she said on Monday. “Me and my husband have been going back and forth on it for weeks now. But my contract is up and I just think this is the right time.
“This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things,” Leakes explained.
Since first appearing on the show, Leakes quickly became a star due to her catty antics, quick one liners, and over-the-top personality. In recent seasons, however, Leakes has been hinting that she’s bigger than the Bravo show. Indeed, she’s spread her wings and had a successful stint on Fox’s Glee, before garnering an even bigger role on the canceled NBC comedy, the New Normal.
While Leakes will no doubt to continue to stay in the public eye, her departure begs the question: Can the housewives survive without Linnethia?
Apparently, Leakes isn’t too concerned about her former show. “I feel a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders,” she confessed before dishing about her upcoming project.
“I’m actually going to be doing a new primetime television show with a big legend,” Leakes told People. “All of my fans will get to see me be really happy, witty and funny and tell all of those one liners that I always have said on ‘Housewives.’”
