Would you support a MAC make up line inspired by Aaliyah? Well if the social media gods prevail, you just might get your chance!
Cosmetics giant MAC has long been known for teaming up with notable women in music, namely Black women, to bring fans exclusive collections inspired by their personal style. Nicki Minaj first collaborated with the brand back in 2010 to release the Pink 4 Friday lipstick in promotion of her Pink Friday album, and then later worked with them again as a part of the 2012 Viva Glam campaign. In what has likely been their most popular pairing with a music artist to date, Rihanna worked with the brand in 2013 to release her own lines of summer, fall and holiday make up lines for the “Rihanna Hearts MAC” series. And of course, who can forget her limited edition MAC “Riri Woo” lipstick?!
In light of MAC’s popularity among women across the globe and their common practice of teaming up with some of the most flawless faces in music, fans of fallen artists Aaliyah and Selena began petitioning for the brand to bring collections inspired by their always-fabulous looks to life. Both of the stunning young starlets have become music icons and trendsetters in their own right since their respective passings, so it didn’t take long before petitions were created to get the ball rolling. Earlier this month, Selena fans got their wish when MAC publicly announced that the MAC + Selena collection will be hitting stores in 2016.

Once it was revealed that MAC had given the green light on Selena’s collection, it wasn’t long before Aaliayh’s fan base amped up their campaign even more, creating a Twitter page, a petition and even garnering the attention of her official fan page. The #AaliyahForMAC hashtag has since been taking over Twitter and we’d hope that it’s only a matter of time before the collection comes to life. Aaliyah’s brother Rashad, who has handled many of her business dealings on behalf of their family since her death, is even supposedly on board with getting the line in motion.
Check out some of the #AaliyahForMAC tweets below, along with some very creative fan art to go along with the campaign.
