London-born model and TV actor Sam Sarpong died at the age of 40, after jumping from a bridge in Pasadena, California. Pasadena police say the actor jumped from the Colorado Street Bridge following seven hours of attempts to talk him down.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office says the case is being investigated as a possible suicide. But the official cause of death must await results of toxicology testing.

Sarpong was the face of Tommy Hilfiger for 6 years, and also worked with fashion brands such as Donna Karan, Versace and Dolce & Gabanna. Sarpong parlayed his modeling career into acting and starred in shows  including “Bones” and “Boston Public” and co-hosted MTV’s 2006 show, “Yo Momma.”

He is survived by his father and his sister June Sarpong, an English TV host.

  • What a sad story.

I send prayers and condolences to his friends and family. Life is precious. A lot of hurt people are in the world filled with pain, and anguish. This is why even something simple like saying Good Afternoon or Have a Great Day (including an encouraging word) can cause great blessings in the lives of others. Obviously, Sam Sarpong was hurting and I send my deepest sympathies to his family.

Wow, i’m sooo shocked. I met him last year. He appeared to have a lot of life in him. He was such a vibrant human being. A real pleasure of meeting. Wow, i’m in utter shock at the same time I get it. We never speak our truths aloud. Omgosh. From here on out I’m going to ask people if they are really good when they say “I’m good”.
