Just weeks after being crowned winner of Mario Tricoci’s 2015 “Mario, Make Me a Model” competition and only blocks away from where a 9-year-old boy was gunned down hours earlier, 20-year-old Kaylyn Pryor was shot and killed in Chicago today. According to police, she was standing outside with a 15-year-old boy in the 7300 block of South May Street around 6:20 p.m. Monday in the city’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood when a vehicle pulled up and opened fire.

Both Kaylyn and the boy were shot, police said, and the car drove off. The two were rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where the 15-year-old is currently in critical condition. Kaylyn was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Police also said Pryor’s fatal gunshot wound was a hit to the right armpit, while the teen was struck in the scrotum.

The Evanston native was crowned winner of a modeling contest that ended with a Sept. 25th celebration and fashion show at the Redmoon Warehouse in Chicago, with more than 1,000 supporters and fans in attendance. The announcement on Mario Tricoci’s site has since been updated with an In Loving Memory message.

Our thoughts are prayers are with Kaylyn’s family.

And some people wonder why folks leave the hood once they start making it. This is exactly why.

Only a fucking idiot stays when he/she can get out. People risk their lives to get to the US. People risked their lives to flee slavery.

I’m sorry she didn’t take her prize money and take a one way ticket out of there. You have no liberty if you have no life.

Much of Chicago is a lost cause.

  • RIP Sister Kaylyn Pryor.
