Over the past few years, Lifetime has made a serious play for Black female viewers. Between novel adaptations like A Day Late and A Dollar Short, Sins of the Mother, and With This Ring, to biopics on Whitney Houston and Aaliyah, Lifetime TV is trying to give Black women what they want–quality programming. Now, the network is training its lens on Toni Braxton.
Borrowing its name from Braxton’s biggest hit, Unbreak My Heart follows the singer’s journey in the music business, beginning with her discovery by L.A. Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, to her battle with Lupus. The film also explores how Braxton has bounced back from stinging setbacks like her very public divorce, her son’s autism, her family’s drama, and her financial woes.
Unbreak My Heart was directed by veteran Vondie Curtis Hall and stars newcomer Lex Scott Davis.
