Sixty Texans are now #TeamHarden after Houston Rockets player James Harden and his mom took 20 single mothers and their kids — 40 of them — on a shopping spree for the holidays.
Dressed in “Team Harden” T-shirts and blue Santa hats this past Sunday, the single moms and their little ones ripped through a South Houston Target store, grabbing whatever they like. Explaining the motive for his selfless act of giving, Harden told local news station KHOU:
“Growing up, my mom was by her lonesome, so I had to do a lot, me, my brother, and my sister so I can kind of relate.”
The shopping spree was actually the fourth year Harden, his mom, siblings, and even his son gave back to single mothers during the holidays. Tammy Copeland, a young mom who witnessed Harden’s kindness firsthand, said of the experience:
“I’m really appreciative of this. I work and I go to school, and I’m a single mother of three kids. [It’s] very hard, but things like this, God just keeps on blessing me.”
Another blessing came by way of banking group BBVA who gave each mom $100 savings certificates to open a new savings account for each child taking part in the shopping spree.
