Looks like Zendaya’s star is going to keep climbing. Last year, the 19-year-old became a pop culture icon not just for her acting and singing chops, but also because she isn’t afraid to speak her mind.

When Giuliana Rancic tried to diss Zendaya’s faux-locs, the teen respectfully clapped back by schooling the Fashion Police commentator on the ways in which Black hair have been denigrated by the mainstream, and when some misguided trolls tried to come for her parents, the Disney star made it clear she wasn’t having it. Zendaya was also quick to call out a magazine that unnecessarily photoshopped her pictures, explaining, “These are the things that make women self-conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have.”

Because of her amazing style and willingness to stand up for what’s right, CoverGirl tapped the actress to be the new face of its beauty line.

Zendaya joins Queen Latifah (one of her personal favs) and JanelleMonáe, as the makeup brand continues to expand its inclusive approach to beauty. And of course, she’s excited about her new Covergirl partnership.

She’s a pretty girl good for her.

I think Zendaya’s great but they make her look SUPER pale in these pictures. The #BlackGirlMagic comment wasn’t necessary though and y’all know why.

I noticed that too. She’s already very light and we all know that cosmetic shoots use a ridiculous amount of lighting. She looks eerily washed out. I won’t throw out skin lightening accusations because…well, it’s winter and even as I type I’m a good 4 shades lighter than I was last summer.

  • Me like we have light (Zendaya), Medium (Queen Latifah), and Dark (Janelle Monae)! Thank you Covergirl for covering it all! This is why I buy from them. Their eyeshadows and concealers could be better though.
