Members of the radical Islamist group Boko Haram apparently burned children alive as part of an attack in Nigeria that killed 86 people, according to reports. The attack occurred Saturday night in the northeastern village of Dalori.

According to ABC News, members of Boko Haram firebombed huts and they could hear the screams of young children. Survivor Alamin Bakura told the AP that several of his family members were killed or wounded in the attack, which lasted for nearly four hours.

Another eyewitness says that 3 female suicide bombers blew themselves up as part of the assault.

Mohammed Kanar, the area coordinator of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, said 86 bodies, many of them charred and riddled with bullets, were collected by Sunday afternoon.

The 6-year Islamic uprising has killed about 20,000 people and driven 2.5 million from their homes.

We all know that if this had happened in France rather than Nigeria the so-called mainstream media would be covering this non-stop for the next month or more. But since it happened in Nigeria we get crickets. Almost no coverage.

They are telling us loud and clear that Black Lives do not matter to them.

    • AfroCapricornette

That’s because you (Americans) rely on American media for your news (local and international). I never go to mainstream media for the full coverage as they stay telling me how a racoon got into someone’s kitchen in the Upper West Side or hoto make snow ice-cream… smh.

It’s why I’m sad Al Jazeera America is shutting down but glad they’ll be online as I get my news from them and the BBC and Nigerian media on twitter, FB and online. I’m really not bothered, per se, that it isn’t covered here *shrug*; those of us that follow such news get them from other reliable news outlets.

    • Val

Well here in America we, the people, own the airwaves that the mainstream media broadcasts on. Therefore I am not willing to let them off the hook with regard to equal coverage of incidents involving Black people.

Also you don’t know what news organizations I rely on. And, btw, the BBC is as mainstream as it gets.

    • AfroCapricornette

“You”, in this case, refers to plural, not singular. BBC isn’t perfect but I can get global news with investigative reporting. Same with Al Jazeera America (RIP). Certainly better than mainstream media. No argument from me regarding what US media should show.

It’s a bit better but essentially the same in Canada, one has to put in some work to find these stories. Internationally, the whole story is Syria (not that I’m making light of the horrors that innocent people there are facing) but it’s really myopic. I only go to Canadian news for Canadian news, everything else, I’ll find elsewhere.

    • AfroCapricornette

Exactly! That’s what I mean. I rarely watch local news for international news. I seek out international news outlets for that. Same with people that buy cable packages for their respective countries to get actual news not reported here. It’s just expected. When news does report on Africa, it’s the usual stereotype so really I’m fine that they do not.

As Boko Haram repeatedly demonstrates, Black Lives don’t matter to Black men.

    • Val

So does that mean White men don’t think White lives matter? You know because of the White men who are serial killers and those who kill dozens of White people in mass shootings. And what about the wars White men start? White people are killed by the hundreds of thousands, like in World War 2. I could go on.

    • Teach Sister.

    • AfroCapricornette

It’s not as simplistic as you make it to be, trust me. I could go an about the ethno-religious, cultural and political issues that fuel this and have been brewing for decades, but it’s way too complex and you would be totally lost. Suffice to say that they have made victims of Christians and Muslims alike, men, women, children and local economies in their terror and they’re like Hydra. You cannot equate BLM here to that environment as issues in both countries are very different.

    • The double standards are real.

    • Jacqueline

You nailed this. No other words needed.

  • It is a total injustice. Boko Haram is an evil, reactionary, and theocratic organization. No innocent human being should be killed. This story should be front page internationally, but the suffering of African peoples are readily ignored by many in the Western media. Nigeria certainly has religious strife that should end. This is a problem that must be solved with the help of multiple African nations. The actions of Boko Haram are deplorable.

    Black Lives Matter.

Islamic uprising?…..who is funding this?….We always look at the Whites but never at the Arabs, who I feel are just as dangerous as Whites(supremacy)if not more so…..your enemy is on the continent and theyre being helped by ‘your own people’….#Arab supremacy….they’ve been at it for centuries, with the collaboration of Blacks and it has nothing to do with religion. ..that’s the cover….They want your land and resources….just like they did with North Africa and the socalled middle east….That is Africa and there were BLACK Africans living there……look at Sudan….look at what’s happening in Mali and Burkina Faso…and soon to come to all African countries with a sizable Muslim population……Do Blacks ‘know thyself’…..Can an Arab ‘god’ hear your prayers?….This is my opinion…so don’t attack. …but I’ve never understood how Blacks are Muslim….those Arabs have been enslaving Blacks since the 6th century up until today. ….from all over East Africa, present day Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, etcccccccc. …and ive read they were the middlemen during European slavery…..why haven’t Blacks dealt with them yet?

    • The Arabic people that you speak of are mostly Caucasians or white people. Either way, the agenda of racism/white supremacy must be exposed and opposed without compromise. Also, many of these Saudi leaders (and others of Arabic descent) collaborate with European leaders regularly. Whiteness is not divine. Blackness is beautiful. The crimes of many Europeans and many Arabic people should be exposed. Also, Western imperialist policies has exacerbated the problems in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Many black people have condemned Arabic people who are racists for years and decades. The only way for us to be liberated is for us to reject the lie that white people are superior (Jim Crow, the Jena Six incident, Bloody Sunday, the Shoah, the system of apartheid in South Africa, the peonage system, and the 1919 bloody summer weren’t caused by Arabic people) and to realize the value that we have as black people. Also, the ancient Greeks and the ancient Romans enslaved black people long before the 6th century A.D. Most Muslims aren’t terrorists. White racism is totally evil and anyone who bows down to white people or any non-black people (in a subservient fashion while degrading black people collectively) is a traitor. The only way that we can be free for real is for black people to unify and fight progressively for real social change. Mobilization, unity, and standing up are important actions to do. This is not an attack on you. These are views of clarification. That is why I do believe in black liberation. IJS.

    • Eyes Wide Shut

BINGO! The Arab-Islamic world needs to be held to task for their crimes against humanity, especially in Africa. After what the Saudis said last year about how black Africans can’t read and more or less caused that stampede at the Hajj, which caused the deaths of 700 people – I am baffled as to why black Muslims still bow 5 times a day towards the birthplace of the Arab god. Like hellllloooooo??????? Arabs subscribe to many of the evil tenets of white racism! Islam is an extension of Arab supremacy. Why is this so hard to recognize? More importantly, why are people afraid to call out Arab Muslims/the Caliphate on their centuries long, systemic hatred?????

As for Boko Haram – seriously, all of black Africa needs to unite and get rid of this scum and send them an express ticket back to Hell.

    • lis

Thank you…Thank you….can we really talk about this honestly.’Islam is an extension of Arab supremacy’…exactly….

  • CayaK

When will this end? I feel for those kids and their families. And the lack of worldwide coverage is sickening.
