Lakatriona Brunson, better known as Bernice from the Tru TV series “South Beach Tow,” was named head football coach at Miami Jackson High School on Monday, which makes her the first female head football coach in Florida history, according to the Miami Herald.
“We’re not here to talk about music or reality TV,” Brunson said at the school’s news conference on Monday. “We’re here to talk about football only.”
Brunson, a physical education teacher and the flag football coach at Jackson, played football for the Miami Fury, formerly of the Independent Women’s Football League, more than a decade ago, according to the Herald. Prior to that, she was a track and field and basketball standout at Miami Northwestern, and she went on to play basketball and earn a degree at Tennessee State.
In recent years, Campbell has served as a defensive coordinator at Miami Central, Miami Northwestern and, most recently, Miami Norland.
Congrats Coach Brunson!
