In this day and age where certain famous black males want to convince the world “we’re beyond” racism, we’re grateful for young black women like Zendaya who keep it real.

The actress went on Snapchat Tuesday night and detailed her unfortunate experience trying to buy gift cards at a store. Admitting she knows there are certain procedures and limits that go along with making such purchases, Zendaya claimed the clerk wasn’t interested in helping her get what she came for, noting to her followers and the friend who accompanied her, “I don’t think she was a huge fan of our skin tone.”

“I recall her not trying to help us at all; saying that we couldn’t buy the gift cards and then throwing my wallet,” she explained. “Can’t make this sh-t up. You just can’t make this sh-t up. This is what we deal with.”

Zendaya added the clerk treated her with an attitude that implied she thought “you can’t afford this.” Obviously, the 20-year-old starlet certainly can — as noted by her hilarious remark that it was “only $400.” That’s not the point of the story but her animation at the 1 minute mark is priceless.

Nevertheless, the store manager did eventually assist Zendaya in making her purchase and all was somewhat well, though after hearing about this incident we can’t help but agree with her point,”There’s so much progress to be done in our world.”
