We’re three months away from the return of Being Mary Jane and the season isn’t the only thing that will be new about the BET series when it hits our TVs in January. Mary Jane has a new job, is in a new city, and there’s a new leading man — we’re not sure yet if he’s a love interest but we definitely have our fingers crossed.

Michael Ealy is joining as a cast lead and, according to Deadline “will play Justin Talbot, the new producer of Great Day USA who, unfortunately for Mary Jane, also is the man who previously got her fired from CNN.” Deadline reports Ealy’s character “remains a thorn in Mary Jane’s side, and she must learn to cleverly circumvent his power plays,” which doesn’t sound all that romantic but we’re wondering if all that professional frustration might work itself up into a sexual release. After all, someone has to fill David and Brandon’s shoes, which Ealy admitted he wasn’t all that sure about initially.

“I had turned down several network offers, as I really was not interested in doing another show at the time, but because Gabrielle is a friend, I told her that I’d seriously think about and talk with my team,” he confessed. “At the end of the day, I felt like we all have a social responsibility to help elevate material with people of color in any way that we can, and if there was an opportunity for me to help my friend and the cultural perceptions of our work, then I would do my part.”

Oh and by the way MJ’s new job at Great Day USA is not in Atlanta, it’s in NYC. It’ll be interesting to see how Mary Jane thrives — or not — without family obligations weighing her down. This will also be the first season Mara Brock and Salim Akil are not at the helm of the production. After the couple moved on to Warner Bros., Will Packer and Erica Shelton-Kodish were brought on to executive produce, with Shelton-Kodish also serving as showrunner.

Check out a teaser for season 4 of Being Mary Jane below. How do you think MJ will fair in the big city alongside Mr. Ealy?
