Three people, including a 15-year-old, have been charged in connection with a hatchet attack on a transgender woman in a Charlotte, NC park, according to the Associated Press.
24-year-old Ralayzia Taylor says she was attacked Nov. 7 in a park, during an attempted robbery. But when they found out she was transgender, the violence escalated, and one of the attackers hit her with a hatchet.
The Mecklenburg County Jail website says 18-year-olds Dajion Tanner and Destiny Dagraca face charges including attempted first-degree murder. Police say a 15-year-old also was arrested.
“I didn’t deserve this at all,” she said. “I’m not a bad person.”
She said she wants to see her attackers pay for what they did.
“I just want to tell them if they are in jail, they need to live in jail,” she said.
Taylor said the attack leaves her with safety concerns, and she is encouraging the LGBT community to be on the lookout for danger.
“I just want to tell all the gays and trannies to keep their heads up,” she said. “Not just blacks, but whites, Hispanics — it doesn’t matter. Just all keep their heads up.”
