Alicia Keys is showing no signs of quitting her new makeup free lifestyle. The 35 year old Grammy Award winning artist and chart topper covers the Winter 2016/2017 issue of V Magazine sporting a fresh face. During her interview, she spoke candidly about the societal pressure for women to wear make-up.
‘I think that it’s definitely tricky being a woman,’ she told V. ‘You go to work, and it’s like, if you don’t put on make-up that day people say, “Oh, you look so tired!”‘
After writing about her decision to stop wearing make-up in an essay published by Lenny Letter in May, Alicia made headlines a few months later when she hit the red carpet at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards with a bare face.
‘It’s not only the entertainment industry, it’s not only the film industry, it’s not only the fashion industry, it’s not only every job that anyone works at or every magazine that everyone has read, it’s a collective consciousness.”’
Alicia insists that she is not against make-up, but she does feels strongly about celebrating the inherent beauty that all women have.
What are your thoughts on Keys continuing this movement? Would you join her? Do you think this decision of hers is indefinite?
