A D.C. police officer has been arrested in Maryland and is facing an array of charges involving assault, weapons and prostitution, police say.
Anne Arundel County police arrested Metropolitan Police Officer Chukwuemeka Ekwonna on Thursday. Ekwonna is charged with armed robbery, firearm use, first, second and third-degree assault, third-degree sex offense, reckless endangerment and prostitution offenses, police said.
All of the charges stem from an incident that happened on Jan. 9, 2017, according to police. The former officer met a 15-year-old girl on the social media app Tagged. The teen agreed to meet with the cop and engage in sexual activity in exchange for money, according to police. After, Ekwonna held a gun to her head and demanded that she return his money.
Ekwonna has been with the Metropolitan Police Department for 14 months and was assigned to the second district. His police powers have been revoked and he is on a “non-contact status,” the department said.
