Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o will be co-starring in a movie directed by Ava DuVernay. Awkward Black Girl and Insecure’s Issa Rae is reportedly in talks to write the screenplay.
According to multiple sources, Netflix has landed the Twitter-meme inspired project, beating out multiple other suitors.
The concept was inspired by a photo of Rihanna and Nyong’o side by side at a Miu Miu fashion show in 2014. The photo turned into a viral online meme, prompting calls to turn it into a movie.
