16 years ago today, R&B singer Aaliyah died when her plane crashed over the ocean in the Bahamas. And in honor of her life, MAC Cosmetics is releasing a new makeup collection.
After a Change.org petition popped up two years ago, a campaign urging the makeup company to honor the late singer, backed by her brother Rashad Haughton, picked up steam and garnered more than 26,000 signatures.
It was enough to sway the brand, which announced Thursday that it will release a collection in summer 2018.
Aaliyah is truly one in a million — an unstoppable icon whose groundbreaking work in R&B music and film inspires us all. Today we join her countless fans in celebrating her with the announcement of the M·A·C Aaliyah collection. You made it happen! Stay tuned in 2018. #AaliyahforMAC @aaliyah_haughton_official
